Our history

After completing a Bachelor of Business, Nathan traded the classroom for a drilling rig and his laptop for a shovel, labouring on drilling rigs in the Surat Basin.

This was a formative experience, teaching the value of hard work and providing an appreciation for what blue-collar workers endure on a daily basis.

Nathan spent over a decade working in HSEQ for small and medium-sized companies that were riding the waves of the boom-bust resources and energy sector. These companies didn’t have the resources of the large MNEs that they contracted to, however, they were subject to the same strict HSEQ / WHS standards.

These client-based standards often went far beyond what is legally required and stretched staff within these smaller companies to the limit.

Through this experience, Nathan learned that with the many competing elements within a business and with finite resources, innovative and efficient solutions were required to allow businesses to meet the required standards and remain profitable.

Empowering operational staff to take charge of their safety management, flexible systems and other creative solutions to increase safety output per unit of input was vital.

After an eventful career that saw him travel across several states and internationally, with the goal of using the lessons he had learned to deliver cost-effective safety services to a wider range of clients, Spire Safety was born
