NSW Demolition Contractor – WHS Audits and Safety Management System
- Client
- NSW demolition contractor
- Industry
- Demolition
- Duration
- 4 weeks
- Standard
- AS/NZS ISO 45001:2018 and harmonised WHS legislation
Key result: All corrective actions rectified
The challenge
A NSW demolition contractor asked Spire Safety for an independent check of its WHS legislative compliance and of how well its existing WHS processes were working on demolition sites. It later needed a documented safety management system reviewed to support its demolition licence renewal.
What we did
External audit of demolition operations against the harmonised WHS Act and Regulations
External audit against AS/NZS ISO 45001:2018
Developed the documented safety management system: WHSMS manual, policies, procedures and a demolition plan template
Desktop review of the WHSMS and a professional opinion letter to support the demolition licence renewal application
The result
- WHS legislation audit: 0 explicit and 0 implicit legal breaches, with 4 observations
- ISO 45001 audit: 0 critical and 0 minor nonconformances
- All corrective actions rectified
- Strengths noted: extensive use of a digital site management app and management involvement in site operations
- A documented SMS and support letter provided for the demolition licence renewal
