Free Safe Operating Procedure Templates by Equipment

This is the full library of free safe operating procedure templates, listed A–Z by equipment and task. If you need a general SOP format to build your own, start with our SOP template; if you need a procedure for a specific machine or tool, find it in the list below.

A safe operating procedure sets out, step by step, how to use a piece of plant or carry out a task safely: the hazards, the controls, the PPE, the pre-use checks and what to do when something goes wrong. Under the model WHS Regulations, a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must manage the risks from plant and provide workers with the information and instruction they need. A written SOP is one of the most practical ways to show that.

Supervisors, leading hands and WHS advisers use these templates as a starting point. Each one should be reviewed against the manufacturer's instructions and your own site conditions, then signed off and kept with your other safety records.
