    Free Pre-Start Checklist Templates

Browse our free pre-start checklist templates, listed A–Z by plant, vehicle and equipment type. Each checklist covers the daily pre-use checks an operator should complete before starting work.

A pre-start check is a short, documented inspection carried out at the start of each shift or before each use. It confirms that guards, controls, brakes, warning devices, fluid levels and safety features are working, and that faults are reported and tagged out before anyone is hurt. Under the model WHS Regulations, PCBUs must make sure plant is inspected and maintained so it is safe to use, and a completed pre-start checklist is clear evidence that this is happening.

Operators, supervisors and fleet or maintenance coordinators use these templates on construction sites, in warehouses, on farms and in workshops. Check each one against the manufacturer's manual and add any site-specific items before you put it into use.
