ISO Certification Consultants in Australia
Practical systems and operating evidence, from gap analysis to independent certification.
Which ISO standard do you need?
Our ISO certification consultants help Australian businesses identify the right starting point, implement management systems and prepare evidence for independent assessment. Start with the requirement in your tender, customer contract or licence. The pages below explain each service in detail; this comparison helps you choose the relevant path without treating every standard as interchangeable.
| Standard or route | What it covers | Who typically needs it | Typical timeframe | Service page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ISO 45001 Consulting | Occupational health and safety management: hazards, worker participation, operational controls and improvement. | Organisations needing independently audited OH&S evidence for tenders or prequalification. | Typically 4–12 months from a standing start | ISO 45001 certification |
| ISO 9001 Consulting | Quality management built on real processes, customer commitments and supplier controls. | Businesses needing certified quality processes for customers, tenders or supply chains. | Typically 4–12 months from a standing start | ISO 9001 certification |
| ISO 14001 Consulting | Environmental aspects, impacts, compliance obligations and operational controls. | Tendering organisations, suppliers and environmental licence holders needing an auditable EMS. | Typically 4–12 months from a standing start | ISO 14001 certification |
| Integrated Management Systems | One framework, document set, internal audit program and management review across quality, environment and safety. | Organisations combining existing systems or pursuing two or three standards together. | Typically 2–4 months for mature existing systems; new systems can take longer | Integrated management systems |
| Exemplar Certification | Certified safety management systems for asbestos removal licences. | Class A asbestos removal licence holders who need a certified safety management system. | No reliable fixed timeframe; depends on licence route, evidence and certifier scheduling | Exemplar certification preparation |
ISO certification vs ISO accreditation
ISO accreditation and certification describe different roles. Accreditation means a certification body is approved by JAS-ANZ for the standards and scope it assesses. Certification means your business’s management system has been audited and certified by that accredited body.
When a customer asks for “ISO accreditation”, check the wording: they will usually need your organisation’s certificate, not accreditation of your business as a certification body. Spire provides consulting, implementation and internal audits. We do not issue ISO certificates or make the independent certification decision.
Read our guide to accreditation and certification for the distinction before choosing a certification route.
How we get you certified
The sequence follows our ISO 45001 preparation process, including operating evidence and management review before Stage 1 and Stage 2. Preparation is Spire’s role; independent certification remains with your selected certification body.
- 1
Gap analysis
Confirm the standards, sites and certification boundary. Review current processes and records against the requirements, then agree a prioritised closure plan with the people responsible for the work.
- 2
Implementation
Close gaps in processes, responsibilities and controlled documents. Put the system into operation and allow time to generate records: inspections, objectives, consultation, monitoring and corrective actions must reflect actual practice.
- 3
Internal audit
Complete an objective internal audit, close findings and verify the corrective actions. Hold management review using performance, risk and audit evidence, and retain the decisions before independent assessment.
- 4
Stage 1
Your independent certification body checks scope, documented information and readiness. We help organise the evidence and resolve preparation gaps; the certification body sets the audit dates and requirements.
- 5
Stage 2
The independent certification body tests implementation and effectiveness across your operation. We support preparation and corrective-action responses, while the body makes the certification decision and issues the certificate.
How to choose an ISO consultant
The right consultant builds a system your people can run after the certificate is issued. Before you engage anyone, check the following.
What to look for
- Experience with the standards you need and with work like yours: sites, activities and hazards, not only document writing.
- A clear plan from gap analysis to Stage 2, including who in your business does what and when records must exist.
- Willingness to reuse your existing procedures and records where they reflect real practice.
Questions to ask
- Which certification bodies have you prepared clients for, and how will you handle their findings?
- What will our team need to do, and how much of their time will it take?
- Who writes the documents, and who runs the internal audit?
Consultant vs certification body
A consultant prepares your system; an independent, JAS-ANZ accredited certification body audits it and decides on certification. The same organisation should not do both.
Red flags
- A guaranteed pass or a certificate promised by a fixed date.
- A generic manual with your logo added and no review of how you actually work.
- An offer to issue the certificate themselves.
Timeline and what affects scope
Typically 4–12 months from a standing start. The range depends on organisation size, the number of sites, existing systems and evidence, and the number of standards involved. Mature systems can provide a useful starting point; missing controls or records require implementation and operating time.
Your team’s availability, internal audit findings and the certification body’s Stage 1 and Stage 2 schedule also affect the timetable. Agree the certification boundary and target date early, then work backwards through implementation, evidence collection, audit and review. A gap analysis makes those dependencies visible rather than promising a certificate by a date the consultant cannot control.
Industries
Construction, mining, manufacturing, cleaning and transport businesses have different activities, hazards, customer requirements and environmental impacts. The system must describe those operations, not a generic company. Identify the contract or licence requirement first, then define the standards, activities and sites the certificate needs to cover.
Our existing guides provide starting points for ISO certification for construction companies, ISO certification for cleaning companies and ISO certification for small business. Use the relevant standard’s service page above to discuss implementation and preparation.
ISO consultants across Australia
Spire is Brisbane-based and supports Australian organisations through remote consulting and planned on-site work where the engagement requires it. For multi-site organisations, scope the operating activities and evidence across the sites rather than assuming one office’s records represent the whole business.
